The Hunger Games
I'm always hungry.
I go to bed thinking about what I'm going to make for lunch (I eat oats every single day for breakfast) and my stomach rumbles at just the thought. I wake up and all I can think about is how fast I can boil the water so I can get those oats, pineapple and dried cranberries in my system.
I'm never satisfied.
Before I got pregnant, I went hardcore in trying to lose weight. My husband graciously paid for a personal trainer for three months.
I exercised every day, sometimes twice a day 6-7 times a week. I didn't enjoy it, but man the results were great.
I was also intermittent fasting. This helped someone like me who likes to eat big meals, rather than several small meals throughout the day.
4-5 meals a day doesn't work for me. It takes too much mental energy to plan and prep. But I've read and been told several times that sprinkling small meals throughout the day is the way to go when you're pregnant. Intermittent fasting is definitely not.
Frequent eating still isn't working though. I can't really say I'm having "meals," they're more like snacks. A few crackers and cheese, an apple and peanut butter, greek yogurt and blueberries.
NONE OF IT IS WORKING! I still feel completely starved all day long.
I drink about 3 liters of water a day and that's not helping either. I'm just so hungry.
And having read that you only need an extra 200 calories a day for the baby really hurt. I can hear my actual tummy growling. I feel hunger pains. But apparently, all that can be fixed with a piece of toast and some peanut butter? Yeah, not convinced.
What's wrong with me then?
I cook all our meals. We mostly eat chicken. I make curries, pastas, satays, and slow cooker meals that have lots of veggies and rice for carbs. But I'm still starving about an hour after I've eaten!
All the blogs, pamphlets, and videos try to scare you with talks of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and the such whilst totally shitting on you for being overweight and *gasp* pregnant! So it really sucks when you try to be mindful and disciplined that your body totally works against you.
I don't look super overweight in terms of how I carry the extra pounds, though according to charts, I need to be about 50 pounds lighter, which suffice to say, means I'm morbidly obese.
Right. . .
From the get-go, I've been determined to gain only the healthiest amount of weight during this pregnancy. I'm lucky that I've not been craving anything too crazy or unhealthy. The doctor says weight gain of about 2lbs/month is what I should shoot for. I've not gained any weight yet, but if I keep feeling this way I may just eat us out of house and home.
